Coding & Immobiliser
Almost every car built in the last 25 years needs its key electronically coded to the vehicle before it will start. AKL programmes transponder keys, remote fobs and keyless proximity keys to your car on-site across Salisbury and the surrounding area.
A cut key on its own will not start a modern car. The chip inside the key, the transponder, has to be recognised by the immobiliser before the engine will turn over. That coding is exactly what a lot of key-cutting shops cannot do, and it is where an auto locksmith earns their keep.
Barry uses professional diagnostic equipment to talk to your vehicle, add the new key to its memory and confirm it starts and locks correctly before leaving. Whether it is a simple remote fob or a keyless entry system, the programming is done at your location, not sent away to a dealer.
We can also add extra keys to a car that already has working ones, and, where the system allows, remove keys that have been lost or stolen so they can no longer be used. If you have bought a second-hand key online and need it coding to your vehicle, Barry can usually sort that too.
Cutting shapes the metal blade so it fits the door and ignition. Programming codes the electronic chip inside the key to your car immobiliser so the engine will start. Most modern keys need both, and AKL does both in one visit.
Usually yes, as long as it is the correct type for your vehicle. Barry can cut and code a supplied key on-site. If it turns out to be the wrong key, he will tell you before charging for programming.
On most vehicles, yes. When we programme a replacement we can wipe the lost key from the car memory where the system allows, so it can no longer start or unlock the vehicle.
